How the satellite watch works

Every park is judged against its own history, never against other parks, so “normal” is specific to each place and to the time of year. A park reaches the list when its latest reading moves outside that range, and it turns red only when it is both beyond the band and still worsening, which keeps one-off spikes and already-recovered parks out of the alerts. Every reading carries the date it was taken, and a feed that has stopped publishing is marked rather than repeated as if it were current.
